Read more and…
Have you ever wondered why you see the link “Read more” on the almost every website? And why use it at all? Indeed, this feature is so pervasive that most of us do not notice it. And maybe that is why it is worth to remember what is? – so, is very useful function.
Any internet user at least a few times a day clicks the “Read more”. You read my blog and i suppose in this time you clicked „read more” button few times. If not, then probably just have the „read more” button in front of your eyes. Well, but what is it?
The main task of the “Read more” is the compression of content. Presenting only previews of articles we can demonstrate their more in limited space. Most of us do not have time to read long texts on the websites. Typically, we only do a quick scan of previews of articles and full read only this which interest to us. “Read more” is therefore the same thing as the slideshow, tabs and other presenting modules – transferring as much information concentrated in a limited area.
In the case of web-based CMS, to all those slideshow and other interesting modules on the main pages, text is automatically inserted which is what you type before separating content function “more”. Therefore, the use of “more” is of considerable importance. If you do not split the content with „more”, the presentation module shows full content of the article. This is not probably in your intentions. And of course looks ugly.
The “read more” links on websites can serve two other important functions:
• Dividing the article on the introduction and the full content improves the statistics, doubling the number of page views, which is crucial in the case of sites that generate revenue from advertising,
• Link “read more” can be used for analytical purposes, examining the popularity of content and movements on the site.
